DID COLIN BIBRA DISCOVER THE ROLLING STONES?
Well almost.
Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones were introduced to
each other on 7th April 1962 at the Ealing Jazz Club. The club was
in the basement of 42a Ealing Broadway (still owned by Colin
Bibra). Believe it or not, the venue is still there and is
currently a night club called The Red Room.
Ealing Jazz Club was a Mecca in the early 60s for many
up-and-coming young blues musicians who would go on to achieve
worldwide fame. As well as Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian
Jones, other famous names that met and played at the club are:
Eric Clapton
Long John Baldry
Paul Jones (Manfred Mann)
Rod Stewart
Ginger Baker (Cream)
Manfred Mann
The Who (originally called The Detours)
Alexis Korner
Graham Bond
There are probably dozens more.
If anyone has any memories of these times we would be delighted
to hear from them.
